Honoured Brethren,

I'm looking for any material concerning flying cities-in-the-clouds. Can anyone point me in the right direction and make supplement recommendations?

What material do you need, really?

Unless you intend for it to go so high that thin atmosphere becomes a problem, it shouldn't be too different - you just fall off and die if you go outside the city walls.

Sir, In my campaign I'm thinking of establishing a loose confederation of city states that drift over grounded kingdoms. I envision these huge rocks with cities built on and in them with airship fleets providing transport and defence. If you know of any generic material, creamy and crunchy, that approaches/approximates/accomodates this idea, I would be deeply appreciative if you could direct me to it. Thank you for your time and attention.

there is a d20 airships book put out by Bastion Press, no idea if it is good or not, but it exists. :) You can get an idea of the material by looking at e-ships, a pdf preview and expansion for the book.

Hope that helps. :)

spelljammer comes to mind with the armada, The flying ships would work well, especially in a 'magical' realm even without the 'space' travel. the cities themselves are reminiscent of either Nethril or Hyrulla in the forgotten realms... either way you could look at the epic level handbook. i think somewhere in it there was reference to doing exactly that kind of thing, but in creating a personal 'demiplane'... tweak the spell to manipulate your own realm material, create a backstory and your limitations and go with it... actually i think there might have been something specific about creating your own flying castle somewhere actually... i'll check when i get home if you don't have either.

this sounds a lot like "meridian" by crossgen

In one of our epic games, one of the characters had a flying fortress, which he designed himself. He had the prices for it and everything, but I don't remember exactly where he got them. Sorry that's so unhelpful. I would assume, though, that you could use the 'stronghold builder's handbook' (or whatever it's called) from WotC and add in the small little detail (like the fact that it flies.

yeah, the stronghold builder's guide has a whole set of rules for building flying structures, including a price list and different building methods, but it lacks a little as far as culture and airships go. there are some good airship tidbits in the arms and equipment guide, including some rules for different types of airships and ornithropters.
