D&D 3E
Char Gen
14th-Apr-2004 05:18 pm
Does anyone know of a Character Generator that works? I have used the one that comes with D&D3.0, Campain Suite and a third which I can't remember. All of which were rife with bugs and short comings.
I've spent 60 bucks so far and nothing!
Any help would be appricialted.

the latest version of Campaign Suite had many of the bugs fixed.
Download the latest version from the site (yes i know the site is out of date) and use your key from the cd (if you bought it)

it should be ok.-

You mean the update from August? That program has so many bugs it's unusable. Character data becomes currupt 50% of the time and we have to start all over again. Weapons frequently un-equip themselves. The program crashed and whiped out all of my fixes. Not happy with it.

hrm. I know Chris personally, in fact I was at Gencon working at his booth in december. I've never had those problems with CS.

Might I suggest you join the Campaign Suite yahoo group and make a post or two?

Also, call the customer service number chris has on the case of the game. Maybe he can help you sort out why you're having these problems.

Chris had sent me several e-mails back in December when I first had problems. He said a new update was in the works. I'm still waiting on it.

Apparently Chris has had major computer problems. I dont know when he'll be back but you'll have to wait.

You can try PCgen till then I suppose.

I remember hearing of a utility called PC Gen that was reported by acquaintances of mine to be very complete and detailed. Of course, these people brought nine page character sheets to the table. I don't know where they got it from, but perhaps a google search can assist you.

I've looked at PCGen before, but I can't seem to find 3.5 information for it. Is there a separate expansion you have to download for it?

They were working on it for the latest release

I'm using an old version but the current version shouuld fully support 3.5 SRD
19th-Apr-2004 06:32 am (UTC) - Got it!
Yes, it is working. I've haven't given it a full run test, but it seems this is the program to use. Thank You.

Master Tools is actually a pretty good character generator now that Code Monkey has their hands on it. Unfortunately, that's just about all it's good at.

Master Tools was the second disaster. I'll try them again if you've used them recently and can recommend them.

Don't do it. Stick to PCGen. It may be counter-intuitive, but it'll do 3e, 3.5, and d20M characters (and more, if you know how to work it).

I've been using Redblade with some success.I'm not sure if it does 3rd or only 3.5 though.
14th-Apr-2004 05:50 pm (UTC) - Thanks.
Do you know where I can get Red Blade?

It's what I use, too, though infrequently.

ETools which was put out by codemonkeypublishing. it starts off as a 3.0 cd only but you can purchase the core set of 3.5 books for 6.95 on the codemonkey website. if you want it let me know and i'll have me or my boyfriend email all the stuff to you. he has the 1.3 and 1.4 program patches and he's gonna be downloading the 1.4.1 v patch and purchasing the 3.5 core data set's this week and he'll email the stuff to you if you want it so just let me know and its a very good program to use.

if you own Nevewinter Nights, you can always copy the stats of a character you create there couldn't you?

If you own NWN...
