Styes request

Hey, there.  I'm in love with the city, the Styes, by Richard Pett.  I've got both Dungeon adventures, and I was wondering if anyone knew of any similar settings or sources I can shamelessly steal from?

well the Styes campaign I run is just about to do the adventure 'The Imp Stitcher' as a bit of light relief from all the truly horrible things that have been happening recently, but as I have a totally adult group I can pitch the setting, villains and adventures in a really, really evil way. However, there are some very good tips on running a horror campaign in Heroes of Horror and also the Book of Vile Darkness - both of which are used liberally in the setting. If you haven't already, may I suggest you try reading Clive Barker, Lovecraft, China Mieville and Neil Gaiman and putting a few of their ideas in (Barker especially is marvellously twisted:)).

I have a few ideas at the back of my murky mind and hopefully if the Styes makes another appearance I'll be able to add more to the setting, but those ideas will have to stay secret until James says yes:) or until Logue stops writing adventures set in places I pitch ideas for (like theatres, prisons, and things with scrimshaws in).

I think the key rules I've tried to create for the campaign (which is on a second run at 3rd level right now) is that the place is just too bad to tackle so fighting is effectively a last resort, paranoia is sweeping everyone (to the point where one PC at least is in the employ of a mind-flayer serial killer and if he says anything to the other PCs the mind flayer has promised to eat their minds in front of her) and so many NPCs have betrayed the PCs that no one is trusted - the PCs recently 'slaughtered without dialogue' a very well balanced NPC that was trying to help them and they got hold of the wrong end of the stick. This of course will have repercusions in the future as after all, the PCs are now murderers in someones eyes...so I guess as well, being responsible for your actions is another element. You never know who is truly behind the sponsor of the adventure you are on until it is too late.

Although having said that the very worst, most horrible thing I could ever imagine to happen in the Styes is a Logue/Vaughn collaboration adventure set there.

Hope that helps:)

Thankee, good sir. I was using similar inspirations, but a mind flayer serial killer? Mweh heh heh...
