Wizards of the Coast have a fantastic new promotional idea that they're rolling out today ... yes, today, look at the date.. erm, so yes, official details here

Also worth checking out their newly redesigned D&D site, in anticipation of 4e.

Regards,
Amphersand.

(ps, if anyone else sees any "good" date related shenannigans, please do leave a comment pointing me in their general direction :))

Excellent. Thanks.

There's another WoW related one - Blizzard announce a console version of the molten core .. the concepts vs screenshots are particularly amusing.. yay for 8 bits of joy.

The Wikipedia article for today's pranks is proving quite useful too.

I got an email from Xbox advertising some new products for spring, which actually look pretty awesome despite being totally fake.

I know the feeling.. looking at some of the gizmos and gadgets that have been "released" on April fools day, there have been things I'd actually consider getting.. if only for amusement value..

I'm sure my hamster would love the Habicase which was unveiled a few years ago.. and this year, I'd quite like the Dynamo keyboard.

Can I just pretend 4th edition is an April Fools Day Joke?

It's around this time I'll get all nostalgic for the "Games Workshop" phase of my life.. a time when Thrudd ruled, W40k was amazing (yes, yes, I have my rose tinted nostalgia glasses on), and a lot of GW products were involving and generally fun.. until GW decided they needed a bit more cash, or that they needed to attract a different type of gamer, so they rewrote the whole W40k system and dumbed it down to the point of idiocy .. and well, at that time I decided I preferred the old system and stuck with it.. even rewriting new stuff in old rules if there was an idea that seemed worth adapting.. house rules I guess we'd call them..

So.. the point of my nostalgic rambling is to say that there's actually nothing at all to stop you from treating 4e as an April fools prank gone awry, if that's what you want to do. It's entirely possible to ignore it and stick with the previous rulesets if the people in your groups are agreeable. It may even be possible to have the best of both worlds, adapt 4e stuff you like, or don't .. it's the wonderful thing about rpgs in general.. they attract creative imaginative types, so we can get creative and imagintive around the rules too. :)

That was lame. Not even slightly believeable. They should hae announced that 4th ed. wasn't going to be called D&D, but something like "Hasbro Presents Fnntasy Role Playing Game With Dragons" or something similar.
