hey, has oneone seen those "Quintessential [whatever]" books?

If so, what are they like? etc.

And what are some other good sources for dnd material? A friend told me to enter "d20" into kazaa and i'll get a ton of things, but I haven't bothered yet and that I don't know the other publishers..and whats good.

I personally own Quintessential Fighter, Paladin, Cleric, and Elf, and a friend of mine owns Rogue.

Gameplay-wise, Fighter, Paladin, and Elf are great -- flavour-wise, they all are.

It's definitely something to read through before buying, however, as I know some people who probably wouldn't get the same amount of use out of them that I do.

Mongoose's Quintessential books are horrible. They're so broken they make 2e's Complete Book of Elves look balanced. Well, almost.

I can't remember the book of elves..I had it but gave it away.

I own the Quintessential Monk and I think it's awesome. I think it's up to the DM to decide if something is broken or not and he can curtail it to make it more formidable for the adventure.

Personally, I use KaZaA (or any other file-sharing program) to download the PDF versions of books to check them out and then go buy the ones I like (because you HAVE to buy them, it's just a lot better to be able to have them with you without having to print out gobs of shit).

Sword and Sorcery is a good line for interesting source material. I have both the Relics and Rituals books (got them at a used book store for like 25 combined). Check any used book store to find good stuff.

Don't bother with anything Mongoose puts out - it's all horribly broken. I would stick to Sword and Sorcerey for my supplement needs if I were you. Green Ronin puts out some decent stuff too though.

They have a feat that allows an archer to threaten out to 20'. C'MON NOW.

They have prestige classes that do worse, that not only let an archer threton within 30 feet, but no AoO to do so.

But you also have the gauge each. They have a lot that is not the best stuff, ansd then they have stuff which WoC try to rip off.

I dont know about Quintensal or any books like that but I just wanted to say that I saw a Mongoose book that looked very handy. The Book of All Spells is freaking huge with spells from I dont know how many books all rolled into one book.
Also are you looking for setting books at all because I have a few I can recommend.
