Here are two more articles from AintItCool. Some liked the last one and some did not. Either way, I promised to post them when I saw them.

Part 2, Part 3

Cross-posted in dnd3e and dnd4e.

Part 2: I really don't see the "radical differences". A DM thinking on his toes would call for a STR vs. REF check in that situation anyway. Any DM that hasn't been awarding XP for non-monster encounters like traps and diplomacy successes has long since slipped into running dungeon-crawl after dungeon-crawl - and that's probably what they like. And the "no magic enhancements" thing is flat-out lies, according to what's been leaked elsewhere.

Part 3: What, he finally found something he thinks of as less-than-ideal in 4e? And then he fails with it. They claimed to have CRs fool-proofed to the hilt last time as well, though we know how broken they are. And the idea of "no broken min/maxing" is absolutely hilarious. Good luck with that, you'd be the first.

Overall, this is just 4e-hyping fluff. The overall attitude on positive reviews like this seems to be that "we fixed glaring error A by changing it radically and completely in a way that seems like we didn't change it at all". I mean, look at what they've done with crit hits. "No more adding more dice of damage, it's just maximized. Except for the weapons that add more dice when you crit."

It'll be interesting to read when it comes out, and I'm sure that a lot of people will switch over if for no other reason than that no new material will be added to 3.5, but I really don't see the advantage yet. Considering we're one of those groups that doesn't use miniatures as a focal point of the session, Massawyrm is apparently saying it'd be less so.

Part 1 was excellent and brought me to 100% 4e excitement.

Parts 2 and 3 made me think: Meh...nevermind then. The ideas sounded good in theory, but the implementation is suddenly sounding very dull.

I'm sure a move to 4e is inevitable, but I'll definitely wait. Probably until Eberron + a couple more accessories are out.
