Finding a group
16th-Apr-2007 02:05 am
I'm getting ready to move to a state I've never been to before. I know exactly one person in that state.

How do you find a group to game with? Where do you look?

One way is go to the local gaming store and ask the staff. Failing that, http://www.accessdenied.net/ is another way. Depending on the game check the game's forum to see if there is a game in your area. I hope that helps.

DnD MeetUp. MeetUp is an online service for just about every hobby you can think of, and DnD is definitely in there. Also, worst case scenario and there's no one in your area, you can start a MeetUp group and bring in other people.

You could also announce what area you're moving to here and see if anyone is close and has an opening.

Doesn't meetup charge a hefty monthly fee in order to set up a group?

Yeah it does. We had an Anime Meetup group running through them for a long time until someone realized that it's about half as expensive to buy a website with pre-installed BB software.

Find the nearest college and start looking for acne.

Failing that, yeah, what they said.

out of curiosity, just because i believe in great coincidences, where are you moving too? I dont mean creepy stalked like street address, I mean near any major cities?

I haven't decided exactly where near Houston, TX yet, but I'll be working at the Johnson Space Center so somewhere on the southern side of it.

Well, since I've not been adept at finding decent gamers from online (no offense to anyone here), I usually just find one around work. This gives you a firsthand appraisal of their personality type. You get a feel of the person before you invite them. Just make sure the co-workers you consider inviting have progressed beyond high school mentality.
