Magical Bows and Manyshot...
15th-Nov-2006 06:13 am
Okay, high level Ranger has the Manyshot feat... Do ALL his arrows shot from his +2 Shock Longbow do extra 1d6 Electricity damage...? It says any arrow fired from the bow gets the damage bonus, but even if they're fired at the same time...? Or is it just the first one, like it's only the first arrow tht can score critical damage...? I have a player that just minced through everything until I destroyed his bow... *chuckle*

Yes, every arrow does the extra damage.

But honestly, Manyshot is (usually) inferior to Rapid Shot anyway. I'm not sure how this combination is any more broken than it would be if he'd gone with Rapid Shot instead...

Oh he has Rapid Shot and Improved Rapid shot... But for those times when he can't make a full attack or he wants to move closer (or further), he makes full use of Manyshot...

agreed. Every arrow.

Manyshot is a only a standard action. So you can do your 2d8 with your bow and still move (which is really nice if you've got something like Skirmish).

But I agree--the enhancement effects all the arrows, though you still only get precision damage once.

Yes, you get the damage on every shot. With manyshot you get 2 attacks as a standard action, so get your extra damage twice if you hit twice. With rapid shot (and the improved version), you get iterative attacks+1 as a full round action.

How did the single extra attack occasionally allow the archer to mince everything? In my experience archers are best just picking a spot and throwing down a full attack every round. Never moving unless chased out of their square.

Manyshot allows you to fire multiple arrows with the one attack...
My player starts out standing where he is, and full attacking... With Rapid shot, that's about 4 arrows, all doing 1d8 plus 1d6shock plus 3 for strength (+2 mighty composite "+3 str" longbow of shock) doing on average, about 40 points of damage... The bad guys recognise the archer as a threat, so they charge him while their archers get a better position as well... My player moves 30ft away, then fires 3 arrows simultaneously doing 3d8 plus 3d6shock plus 9 for strength PLUS 2d6 skirmish... Most bad guys dead in three rounds, less if the fighters get there before the Ranger/Scout/Order of the Bow Initiate- which they rarely do... Boy am I glad that Manyshot cannot be used in conjunction with Rapid Shot... And now he can make ranged attacks without provoking attacks of opportunity...! Aaaaaaargh...!

Just a small and quick scenario, and I DO of course vary my tactics, like I stated earlier, I recently destroyed his beloved bow...

Every arrow gets the bows bonus to damage and any other enchantments. This applies for DR reduction purposes as well as damage.

Manyshot is only limited for the purposes of critical hits and "Precision Damage" such as favored enemy, sneak attack, skirmish, etc.

I think it goes on all the arrows. If my vote counts, anyway. ;-)
