I've been playing the 7 day d&d online trial and suprisingly enjoying it.

It of course, in no way matches or even competes with the experience of an actual tabletop session, but I do like the approach they've taken on this.

Does anyone in here use online tabletop programs on a regular basis?

You mean the MMORPG, right? DDO? Is it set in Eberron? I'm an avid player of World of Warcraft in addition to my traditional D&D games on the weekends. I've feared DDO just on the grounds I never liked to mix guns in with my fantasy. I avoid Dwarven hunters in WoW because of it.

Yep, ddo.

WoW is kind of everything I hate about mmorpgs, I pretty much avoid them all.

ddo is basically all quest driven, when you enter a quest area (let's say dungeon) the only other people you will share the area with are your group members (if you have any), In some ways I really really like that.

On the other hand I wish that there was more exploring to be had, like in Oblivion.

Guild Wars does that - shares the map only with other group members. It really helps the whole PvP issue, but then, I've always enjoyed the dynamic interaction of players in every facet of MMORPGs, so...

...But I hate Everquest 2. I play WoW for its simplicity. When I play D&D, I want to be creative and expand my mind. When I play WoW, I want to shut my mind off and fry it - kind of like what most people do when they watch television.

WoW instances dungeons as well.

Still, if you're going to be avoiding contact with random people you might as well be playing Neverwinter Nights. Better D&D rules, and you can play with a DM or without as the need arises.

I enjoyed playing Neverwinter, maybe I'll get back into it some time.

NWN2 is coming out soon as well, I believe.

No guns in Eberron, only wands.

My friends and I use E-Tools...that's about it.

Would have been great, had my close-tag worked...

Yes, someone here uses online tabletop programs on a regular basis. Me! (just found this community, if you wonder about the why replying to 5 day old posts.)

Currently playing two weekly campaigns using openrpg, one on Fridays that have been running for over a year, and the Sunday one's about seven months old. Both D&D 3.5.

Was there anything in particular you wondered about it?
