Three Facts

My group has learned three facts over the last two sessions.

1. No matter how "pimped" your wizard may be, he's a wizard and wading into the battle melee is a great way to end up a corpse.

2. Orcs with great axes suck no matter what level you are.

3. Even a CL1 creature can ruin your day when you're lvl 12.

I dunno, Some good deflection bonuses, and displacement, along with 2 or 3 wands (lightning bold, disintigration, and hold person) could help!

They sure could--
-- but the party didn't have 'em.

I will not talk about the game where the bard and wizard outdamaged the fighter and rogue in melee.

bah. a wizard and a favoured soul working together = fighter? who needs him?

As with most charaters, that depends on what sources the DM allows the character to pull from.

Sun elf wizard able to hit 38 STR before popping too many spells? Well past 50 before casting Transformation? scary. (granted he made it to 19th lvl)

I rather expect #2 is that reason the default sample orc in the MM was changed to a scimitar rather than a greataxe as his default weapon. Doesn't quite feel like a reasonable challenge for a level 1 party, when he's still CR 1/2 and can likely drop most lvl 1 characters with a hit, much less a crit.

Very true. Being a 12th level party I decided to go with great axes.

Um. CL1?

Should that be CR 1? It makes more sense that way.
