Quick one here. What kind of bonus does a Datana bracer add... deflection, shield, or armor. Can a monk use one and not lose any bonuses?

What is a Datana bracer?

If I understand correctly, a monk may wear "Bracers of Armor," which provide an armor bonus, without losing any of their monk stats, because bracers are not armor. They simply provide an armor bonus. Same thing with a "Ring of Force Shield."

Dastana bracers are from the arms and equipment guide (which I do not own) and grant a +1 bonus to your armor class. They are stackable with light armor and can be enchanted.

If that's the case, then they're technically a piece of light armor, by my reckoning.

But if they're stackable with light armor, why are they a piece of light armor?

Is the +1 they add an "armor" bonus that stacks, then? That would make sense...

Well, when you consider that most of the medium and heavy suits of armor include gauntlets, it would make sense that you can get an add on for a piece of light armor as well.

The same can be argued for a helmet, if you want to see it that way. ~.^

It's an armour bonus.
It looks to me from the text that they can only be worn with some base armour not as a seperate item. Also the character must be proficient with light armour to use them.
From this I'd suppose that monks do lose their unarmoured bonuses if wearing them.

"Dastana: This pair of metal bracers can be worn
in addition to some other types of armor to provide
an additional armor bonus that stacks with both the
foundation armor and any shield worn. You can wear
daszana with padded, leather, or chain shirt armor.
You need the Armor proficienc(light) feat to wear
dastana without penalty."

In addition the table they are listed in is the armour table, it's specified as a +1 armour bonus and they have a spell failure chance associated with them of 5% and an armour check penalty of 1.
