Okies, new game coming up for me to play, the DM wants me to be a hard hitter... My original thought was half-ogre, but he says large creatures will be screwed in the ample tight-space fighting and such... It's a 1st level campaign and I can have anything with up to a +2 - +3 LA... I'm looking for something with at least a +4 to strength with minimum penalties...
I've heard of Goliaths in Races of Stone, but I don't have any information on them, can someone help me...? They sound cool... I'm planning on being a barbarian by the way...(duh)

Goliaths are medium creatures that can use weapons as if they are Large creatures, and have quite a few other cool things as well.

Also, Mountain Rage (from the Goliath Barbarian racial substitution class) is awesome.

I likey the sound of them... You have the information on them...?

I don't suppose you'd care to share it with me...?

You don't have $20 to just go pick up Races of Stone?

Not right now... Anyways, I'm in Australia and the price here is probably about $50-$60AUD, more than what is in my pocket at this time... If you don't want to help, that's fine...

I would, there's just the little matter of distributing copyrighted material.

Not to mention it'd be a lot to type up/scan for you, especially if you wanted all the little culture bits Wizards gives you.

No worries... Maybe I'll take a notebook into my highly overpriced store... And a camera... *chuckles* sneeeeeeeeaky...

Voice memo on the cell phone, dude.

And it sounds like an orc is what you're looking for, but while they're a tad dumb, they don't have the +1 LA goliaths do.

Check __bittorrent's community information page and follow some of the links in there. I'm sure you'll find the book you're looking for. I (at one point) downloaded every single D&D 3.0e/3.5e core/source book. I've deleted them all by now to clear room on my hard drive... but my point is; I'm sure you'll find what you're looking for :)

Hehe, the Wisards are upon you! =)))))

If you can't afford to buy an Australian book, do what I do: Spend inordinate amounts of time in the gaming store reading the entry and trying to memorize it as best you can.

Hehe, that's exactly what I did... Except I took my phone and typed out what I could...

Half Giant is a viable option, too. I'm playing a Half-Giant Barbarian werebear, and while that's a bit over the top (unless you're starting at level 11? *grin*) the Half-Giant is nice.

"Size: Medium." Except for all beneficial modifiers, in which it is sized as Large. That 1d12 great axe? Pshaw! As a Large weapon, it's 3d6, and wielding it two handed makes it 1.5 STR on the damage. Oh, so nice. Goliath has the same type of thing.

Uhm, Races of Stone has appeared on some .pdf files, if you wanted to look around... Or, what about Wal-Mart.com? Cheapest place on the planet that I've found to buy books.

What level are you starting at, btw?

It's a 1st level campaign and I can have anything with up to a +2 - +3 LA...

.... this just loses me.

I know. I got the same thing.

Perhaps it is a given that everyone will play +2/+3 characters? Otherwise I agree, that's hideously unfair.

The DM wanted hard hitters that had a slight edge over the other PCs in combat, myself and another were appointed this task and as a result, I now have a Goliath Barbarian (+1 LA) and the other has a Reptilian Half-Orc Scout (+2LA)... While we are slightly more powerful than the other 3 party members, they have no problem with gaining levels more quickly than we do... And stoked with the fact that their characters have the freedom to be "characters" ie- They don't have to focus much on combat and can roleplay according to their abilites...
