Questions on Dragonmarks

fox
1. Is activating a Dragonmark a standard action?
2. Does activiating a Dragonmark incur attacks of opportunity?
3. Are spell componenets required when using a Dragonmark?
4. Can activating a dragonmark be used as a readied action? (I assume yes for this one)
5. Is having a dragonmark considered possessing of a spell like ability?
6. Can possession of a dragonmark meet the prerequisites for the Dragon Disciple Prestige class?
7. Are there Verbal or Somatic components required for dragonmarked abilities (read, can I use one if bound and gagged)?
8. Do dragonmarks function within an antimagic field?
9. If I have a dragonmark ability that is the equivalent of a 1st level spell, will a globe of Invulnerability protect the person it is on from my dragonmark?

The book is not very helpful in giving you tactical rules information about these

Where on a person's body do these marks appear?

And When you have the least mark, and you obtain the Lesser mark (as with the dragonmarked heir prestige class) Does it REPLACE your least mark (ie add to it) or is it a second mark in ADDITION to your previous mark? If it is a second mark, where does IT appear. (or is that completely up to the character)

Dragonmarks are Spell Like Abilities, and the answers are in accordance with that. As mentioned in the original post.

As for the Dragon Disciple, its part of the SRD and available at
d20srd.org (and other locations).

I'd read them as granting you spell-like abilities. Perhaps answering these questions for a Gnome's innate abilities might give you some suggestions. Now assuming it is a spell-like ability:

1) Yes
2) Yes, unless you make a concentration check (see the entry on Spell-like abilities in the SRD)
3) No
4) Yes
5) Yes
6) Um... again, can Gnomes by their very nature quality for the PrC? I'd rule that having a spell-like ability is different from casting spells spontaneous. I think the intent of the PrC is to require levels of bard or sorcerer or some similar class, no racial abilities.
7) No (again, spell-like ability)
8) No
9) Yes

That'd be my reading anyway. But I've never actually played with a Dragonmark, so I'm not sure how these things normally play out.

Since nobody else seemed to touch on it, for your last question (the one that isn't numbered), Dragon Marks appear almost anywhere on the body, usually in some location that is obvious to others.

When you get the next Dragonmark, ie Lesser, Greater, etc. it isn't a new mark, your old mark grows to include the next part of the markings. The Dragonmarks themselves are on the pages of the Eberron handbook.

If you've seen the Sci-fi presentation of Children of Dune, or played Legend of Legaia, think of it like Leto's skin or like a Ra-Seru. It starts small, and as it gains power it grows to engulf the characters skin (in this case with tattoo-like markings).

Thanks. I looked especially hard for that information in the books and was unable to find it. I like to know the rules, whether or not I house rule them later or not.

Hey, just to add...when the mark grows to the new mark, it doesnt free up the previous feat. I just wanna make that clear in case that was part of why you asked about replacement.

Oh no, I got that. I have loved the dragonmark feats for awhile. I have a character who is about to get to that magical level 5 where I can take my first level of Dragonmarked Heir prestige class, and I'm very excited that my Shield of faith will last for more than 1 minute.

It specifies that it's a Spell-like ability, so all the standard rules for Spell-like abilities apply.
