Update on my RPG.
9th-Nov-2005 02:11 pm
First I want to thank everyone for their help. The direction I got from members here has really helped us out a lot in the way we decided to go with the game. When this goes to print I would like to post the LJ names of any who replied to my posts (unless you do not wish to be mentioned).

Second: We still need some help with a few things. Mainly graphics for the site, banners and so on. We are still looking for fantasy artists (over 200 email and still no one who is able to work). We also need logo design. Any work we use WILL be paid for.

Third: I need site suggestions. What would you like to see in an RPG site or message board?

Fourth: Play test and Review. I would like to some feed back from a few groups before we launch the game so we know if there are any changes that need to be made.

If anyone is interested in any of this let me know. Thanks.

I wouldn't mind helping to test the game. I'm friends with a lot of seasoned players and DMs; as well as powergamers, metagamers, and game-breakers. I'm sure I could get something together with them and get a good run with it.

And for suggestions for the website, I think things for the DM to use (examples: city generator, character gen) and character sheets. That's all I can think of for now.

Hell, I think I'll make sure to give my bud's a poke to see if they have any suggestions.

Cool, Thanks.

Character sheets and generators I have not thought of yet. Good one, I will add it to this list. We can offer it in a number of formats (PDF, XLS, and so on) as for the various generators what are your thoughts on them being web based? The software itself would not require downloading and the only thing you save to the drive would be your own files (saved in formats that could be read)

As for the playtest I will put you down on the list and get you a copy of the material when its ready.

Web based generators should be fine. If a DM has their computer or laptop around at the game, odds are they have an internet connection. But for those that don't, maybe give links or suggestions to where you could download a generator. Otherwise, I can only think that when it comes to quick decisions, real techie DMs would want to use a generator instead of rolling a pair of d10s and using a chart.

Which could be another thing if you haven’t thought of it, percentile charts to use with percentile dice? For those without computers at their whim, just roll two d10s and match to the chart.

And thanks, by the way.

Well the generator software would be custom made (I work in the I.T. field so I know a few people who could do this sort of thing). I will think about that. Any tools along those lines (which we would make) would be free to download or access.

Hey I'd like to make a suggestion for you. Before running to print, try out your rpg creation on the PDF market.

With minimal investment you can sell your product at the ENworld Game Store www.enworld.org/shop.

You gain a whole lot by selling there, including a built in market, a free forum for your company and much more. There are many more pdf stores but I recommend that one most.

We talked over the idea of making the game into PDF format. What I want to do is keep the cost low and make sure that anyone who wants to play can afford it. Example: The hard copy of our material is most likly going to be about $15 -$20 and all source material will be around 8-10 depending on size.

Everything we do will also be translated to PDF for download and will be a reasonable price (a few bucks). I can't see charging the same price for the PDF as we would for hard copy because there are no materials involved. Also the PDF option makes the game even more affordable.

I will be sure to check out this ENworld. Thanks

There is a huge pdf market out there thats growing everyday.

What is your rpg about? is it d20? why dont you IM me and tell me about it and I'll tell ya if pdf is right for you or not.

I can also direct you to places on the forum to ask for advice and get to know the industry.

What are you looking for picture/logo-wise? Do you have a list of some sort somewhere? I might be able to find you some people who are interested. Do you have any examples of what kind/style of work you are looking for? (I haven't seen what kind of project you are working on so I can guarantee that I'll find someone as I don't know what kind of artist I need to go through my contacts for. ^.^; )

My appologies for the lack of name on the previous post. I didn't realize I was logged out.

No prob.

For art work I would like to see samples of their work before turning over material to them. Personally I like the more Fantasy/horror style but we are pretty open so long as the work is good. One thing we are trying to move away from the usual Barbarian with a bad ass sword or some half naked women in a frozen wastland. Oh and none of these modern day bad guys who are depressed every few moments. I am so sick of that.

Guidelines are in the works. Everything will be in black and white save the front and back cover and maybe an inside cover. One thing we are also looking for is a lot of character detail.

I have no idea what's going on, but I'm intrigued.

*is new*

I have an RPG in the works.
I have been posting here asking for input from others as well as sometimes putting up projects I need help with in order to get this off the ground.

Best of luck, man.

A lot of time and money has been invested into this. If I can get this out to at least one person it will be worth it.
