Quick question: I need a name for a magic weapon, a lightning based sword. I'm looking for a simple name along the lines of the Sunblade or Flametongue. Multiple suggestions would be helpful. Thanks a bunch.

all depends on the source of its power, where it was forged/created, by whom. Are there any religious aspects to it? If an Orc barbarian found it in a buried tomb lost to time, it might just be called "Da Zapper!" If there's no story behind the origin of the sword, let the PC who finds it come up with something. If there is a story, its name should reflect the legend of its origin.

Something generic?

Last time I had a lightning blade in my campaign, it was named Skyfire.

The Sizzleburst Brand
Heaven's Lash
Drumfire Thrash

I usually visualize and describe what a weapon does when it's used, then describe it in as few words as possible, turning into something with 2-3 words that roll off the tongue nicely, sometimes combining. Lightning crackles, sizzles, buzzes, lashes(briefly afterwards), and bursts. It bites, stings, nips, and thrashes. I dunno.

Lightning's Fall. As if the heavens opened up and a bolt of pure, white cracking lightning hit and left a sword, fully formed, lying in its wake.

Stormchild's Kiss

Crackling Razor (I see a blade with little St. Elmo's fires dancing around it like lightning halos, crackling and such)

Boltsword (kind of generic, but yeah)

Shocking Stroke

Arc Blade

Mr. Stabby-zap (you know you want to give it to a goblin and call it this)

Strikes Once (like lightning, it hits once, and it doesn't have to hit the same place twice. Guess it would be better for an electric spear...)

Finger of [insert storm god's name here]
