(no subject)

My friends and I are running a 3rd Edition Oriental Adventures campaign (a very liberal one at that) and I am wanting to make a Shaman character, but I am wanting to make him a more tribal type of character and I've always thought of Orcs and Elves both as very tribal. So, I was wondering what you guys would think of a half-orc/half-elf Shaman and what sort of powers and racial traits I should give him?

I was thinking of two ways I could do it. Which looks more balanced and better acceptable?
A) +1 to Strength, +1 to Dexterity, -1 to Constitution, -1 to Intelligence, and -1 to Charisma. Medium-size, base speed of 30 feet. Low-light vision; both the use of Elven and Orc blood (as specified in the Player's Handbook under Half-Elf & Half-Orc races), and automatic langauges being Common and either Orc or Elven. +1 racial bonuses on Listen, Search, and Spot, without the ability to notice secret doors.

B) +2 to Strength, -2 to Intelligence, -2 to Charisma, +1 to Dexterity, and -2 to Constitution. Immunity to sleep spells, low-light vision, +1 racial bonus on Listen, Search, and Spot, without the ability to notice secret doors, both Orc & Elven blood, and Automatic languages being Common, Elven, and Orc.

Of course, the second one seems to be more disabling than the previous one, but, then again, I'm trying to be objective and keep it balanced. As a first level character (everyone else is almost 4th level), I'll definitely be the weak link of the party for a bit. The scores I'm working with are 16, 16, 15, 14, 12, and 10.

Any ideas or recommendations?

leveled weapons

one of my players is playing a paladin. he came up with a really nice character background. part of the background involves an heirloom sword. we discussed it and he'd like to level the weapon, similar to to the samurai class ability. there was an article in a back issue of dragon explaining how to do this and i don't have it in front of me but if i'm correct it requires the player pay for the leveled weapon with experience, which he doesn't want to do. does anyone know of a prestige class that allows for a leveled weapon class ability? any other suggestions on how to handle this?
