Bloodlines, are they worth it?
9th-Jan-2005 12:19 am
Canopus (sadness)
That's one of my questions anyway, should my next character have githzerai/githyanki (I haven't decided which yet) bloodlines or should I not bother? I've looked at both of them in Unearthed Arcana , and though neither aren't anything spectacular, it could be interesting for RP purposes and such instead of playing a githzerai or a githyanki who'd just be killed in the middle of the campaign.

My second question: Are githzerai still destroyed by their wizard-king whn they become too powerful in the Third Edition like they were in the Second Edition? I've looked it up in many places, but have found nothing. I know the githyanki who grow too powerful are still being destroyed by their lich queen in the Third Edition.

All feedback is appreciated, and I apolgize for any spelling mistakes.

I don't think so. It's just the Githyanki in 3ed, as far as I know.

In case you're wondering, the level Githyanki get nuked (thier souls sucked out by the Lich Queen) is CLVL 13. I thiink.

I know too mch about the gith. -_-

if you need anything on flavor for them, lemme know, ok?

Sure thing! and I love your lj icon!

I had a feeling that githzerai didn't get destroyed in Third Edition, now if only my DM would listen to me..however, if I ever did play a githzerai, it would be much later on when I'm ready for a character with a +2 level adjustment as opposed to the +1 of Drow and tieflings.

hee. It's Fell. Who is Awesome. and a Dabus. :3

my personal +1 character is the D20 Dragonblooded human. pretty decent.

huh. I thought Drow had a +2. they do in D20, at least.

My character was a Forgotten ealms Drow, which have =1. (I think, then again I'm tired.)

Mind if I add you to my friends list?

If they are a player character, then Githyanki are not instantly destroyed when reaching 17th level. However, the Lich-Queen ruler of Githyanki would send teams of soldiers to kill that character. I didn't think Githzerai were killed like that at all, but I don't know that much about them.

The Githyanki almost always goes willingly, from what I've gathered.

*updates the Big List on Githyanki*

Normal Githyanki do go willingly. But if a player is playing one, he has a choice. Dragon magazine talked about playing Githyanki, and mentioned the things I am talking about. I don't remember the issue. It's in the low 300's

I've seen the magazine.

I want it so bad.

Don't forget, OP: if your PC refuses, he becomes KOS to all normal githaynki, pretty much. :D:D:D.

I'd love to get a hold of that issue.

my Githzerai monk was quite tough, his dex and wis were quite impressive combined with a couple of the psi-like abilities he was tough to hit.

I always liked the idea of bloodlines. I thought they were a fun way to a slight dash of flavor to a character. My favorites were always the elemental bloodlines and the genie bloodline. I could never really understand how someone with a faint trace of dragon blood would get a bonus to diplacy with them where a half-dragon would not though.

Personally, I think bloodlines are alright for flavor, if you go in for that kind of thing.

It's a good way to go part of the way down the road, but not all the way. A friend of mine right now has an interesting character: a drow with a Fey bloodline. Interesting as all fuck, to say the least.

In any case, I don't think any of the bloodlines are anything to rave about, but they do make for interesting characters.

Thanks for the imput. :) My next character will probably be a fighr (dunno what race yet) with a githyanki bloodline.

For me, bloodlines are purely for making characters more exotic. It definitely takes your role playing new places, but pros and cons of adding a bloodline make it a wash as far a game mechanics. I personally don't like sacrificing valuable levels for small bloodline bonuses. In the kind of campaign we run, those levels are more valuable than gold! :)

Thanks for the imput! Earlier today, I made a human fighter whom has a githyanki bloodline. Eventually, she'll multiclass as a dragoon (DM's custom prestiege class).
