I'm looking to build a half unicorn, half human or elf. Is there a template for that somewhere? Or anyone have any suggestions how to do it?

Hmm... interesting idea. What exactly do you want? A shapechanger human/elf-unicorn? Or a centaur with a horn on their forehead?

I was actually thinking a satyr type. (I think its satyr.) Legs of a unicorn, torso and head of a human, small horn, pointed ears, and unicorn tail.

About taking a centuar character (which I'm sure is explained somewhere) and giving it a celestial template or something? That may not be quite the image you want, but it's a start.

Basically I'd take something like a satyr or a centaur that has the basic form and abilities you want, then make it celestial to add unicorn pieces in.

I think savage species had rules for making anthropomorphic characters. Maybe try for an anthropomorphic unicorn using those?

Savage Species has a template for "Tauric Creatures", which is basically a four-legged body with a humanoid torso. That might help.

I worked up an "anthropomorphic unicorn" a while back. It isn't fully balanced yet, but I can post the stats if anyone is interested. It is a bit large, being a 9 level progression (or ECL). It could probably be trimmed a level or two. I've made a few half-whatever conversions as well, like a half-nymph and half-succubus. Half-unicorn would be interesting. I would guess you could get it down to a 3-4 level progression if desired.

Yea, I don't like high ECL characters... They take entirely too long to level up...

Other people have covered the mechanical possibilities. I'm left with a nagging question though. Half-dragons I follow, dragons polymorph. How, exactly, is a half unicorn coming about though? Who and why is mating with more-or-less horses?

So there I was, searching the internet...

You know, that's a good point... how exactly do an elf and a unicorn mate? I mean, a unicorn and a centaur, ok, sure, but an elf? Then again, in the 2e Book of Unlawful Carnal Knowledge, I think it said that elves could bear almost anything, child-wise.

I guess if you really wanted to do it, you could average the stats and then just toss in abilities as you see fit, but otherwise a satyr's a good place to start. Also, in one of the newer monster manuals, maybe the Fiend Folio, there's a race of horse people who you could just toss a celestial template and a horn on.

A unicorn could, conceivably, take class levels.  And learn spells.  Including, possibly, polymorph.
