Quick Question...

Disney-Hercules Seductive

I am building a new temperary character for a campaign I'm playing in. This character is supposed to support the rest of the party in rescuing my main character and one other player character. So, the charater I'm working on is 8th level. She might not make 9th and I hope she doesn't make 10th before I get my main character back. That said...

My first 7 levels are scout 4 / ranger 2 / order of the bow initiate 1. But the 8th level I can't decide. Help me?

Option 1: Scout 5
Benefits:
Evasion
+1 AC while skirmishing (due to stacking through the Swift Hunter feat)

Option 2: Initiate 2
Benefits:
+1 BAB
Close Combat Shot (don't really care about that)
Only 1 level away from +1d8 damage

Which way would you guys go?

Evasion is a very nice ability, the best one from the other you're not interested in...so, to me, scout seems the way to go.

Right, that's what I thought as well..

I'm a huge fan of Order of the Bow Initiate. So I would go with that. On the other hand, evasion is a pretty great ability.

Have you considered Wizard?

Well, perhaps not.

Heh. I've been trying to convince our warlock and our rogue to each take levels in wizard since...oh, about 4th level. (We're 17th level now.) I'm a sor/clr Mystic Theurge (with a bloodline, so my highest spells are 5th level), and our only other caster is a Druid 11/Ranger, so we're really low on arcane utility spells. So maybe our situation is different.

I personally might go for ranger 3--you get the +1 AC from swift hunder, the +1 BAB, and Endurance (which is never bad). You also get a few more skill points to round out your numbers (I'm a huge fan of skills).

Then if you do have to level her to 9th, you could take Ranger 4 to keep up your BAB but get a spell to play around with (or an extra feat if you take the variant in Complete Champion). When short-term characters, it's best not to plan for the long term and make sure you get something fun at every level :)
