Paizo to support 3.5

This news is a few weeks old already, but Paizo plans to keep supporting 3.5E for a while according to the Pathfinder news page. Since WOTC won't be printing new 3.5 core books once 4.0 is out, Paizo also plans to release "Pathfinder RPG", which is essentially a core rule book with 3.5 rules. There will, of course, be 4E conversion guides/materials, so we will hopefully get the best of both worlds.

I think this is in part due to WotC dragging it's heels on the GSL and the developer's kit. Mind you, I haven't heard of anyone who actually spent the $5000 to acquire it, and any designer hoping to get a jump of 4e products in time for the holidays may end up dissapointed...

But I applaud Pazio for the decision. They lost out big when the rights to print Dragon and Dungeion got pulled by WotC in favor of the DI, and 3.x still has plenty of life left within it. I picked up the Alpha play test rules, and I'm thinking about running a few sessions of it myself.

This makes a lot of sense; Paizo passed its deadline for starting new projects to meet the June release of the new rules back in October; they polled their fans to see what they should do, and the response was fairly unanimous to keep writing for 3.5. So, a new set of rules would seem to have been in order, and that's what they've been working on... should prove interesting.

well that's good news. some of the stuff i see about 4e sounds great but it does seem like a pretty hefty revision and i enjoy 3.5 a lot. we have current 3.5 games that i don't think would benefit from trying to convert our pc's so i think my group will continue playing 3.5 for a while after 4.0 comes out. since we play more than one game at a time we may never switch over entirely.
