DM PC's are bad juju, get rid of them, do something, just get rid of the DM PC.
Its god damn masturbation. You are masturbating in front of your friends. Your friends do not want to see you masturbate, stop masturbating.

Indeed :)

I just love how the DMs PC can manage to do everything single handedly that the rest of the party working together somehow can't manage to do.

That's called an NPC. :)

DMPCs are when the DM tries to have his cake and eat it too. Either run the game or play it. You can't do both.

What you described is still what I would consider an NPC. Players run PCs, DMs run NPCs. A DMPC is when a DM has a pet NPC that he runs with the party, yet continually overshadows the PCs; he is smarter, stronger, faster, has better loot, etc. That's problematic. The NPC you described, that's the way they should be run.

I'd agree with this definition

Yet continually overshadows the PCs; he is smarter, stronger, faster, has better loot, etc

But not with this. I'd call that a badly run DMPC. lusipurr describes a well-run DMPC.

The point is, again, you're arguing about definitions to an undefined term. Whether you want to call it a DMPC or an NPC, the DM can play a PC at the same time without it being a problem. The DM can both run the game and play it.

Sorry, I wasn't trying to be argumentatitve. I was just going by the definition of the term as I've heard it used, that's all. It's just semantics, really.

What's the heraldry?

Oh, just a little something I designed for my last adventuring group. We were called the Order of the Broken Chain, on account of our first real adventure which involved freeing some slaves.

"DMPC" is actually a pretty hard to define term. There's a bunch of threads on the Wizard's board all about exactly what a DMPC is.

There's nothing inherently wrong with the DM running a PC (or a PC-like NPC, or whatever you want to call it). It's just that many (if not most) DMs do it badly.

But I like masturbating in front of my friends.

That is awesome. and so true...

God, do I hate people like that. I have a DM (excuse me, ST) that upgraded all of his NPCs to DMPCs. I hate him. So glad I have a reason to drop out of that horrid campaign. It lasted three semesters for me, but it's on it's fifth now and I'm through. Such a lousy DM but thinks he's amazing, even if we tell him shit sucks he gets offended no one told him sooner or thinks it's an attack rather than constructive criticism, which it is I just like using profanity.

It's like I get splooged on every game. -.-; Ewwwww.

Side Note: If it's something you don't want to know, but keep asking anyways. Please stop yourself. I have horrid images of this guy... so bad. *cries himself to sleep*

DM pc.'s are pretty dumb I have allot of repeat npc'c some are bad ass but never oushine the charictors allot of which have started out terrably innefectave in every way npc's are great plot devices it gives the pc's a sense that the world you made is going on around them"and once they get good and attatched you can have that one bad guy that got away a bunch of adventures back come back and brutally kill there npc buddy" but DM pc's seem to rarely help the plot in any way. so yea it is kindof like game masturbation
