Wormy
I picked up Expedition to Castle Ravenloft so now I'm gearing up to run DnD again.

Only, I cannot just run a normal DnD game like a normal DnD nerd.

See, I'm not setting it in a normal DnD world. I'm setting it in Transylvania in 1816. PCs are veterans of the Napoleonic Wars. They have recently completed an adventure where they prevented the evil Dr. Victor Frankenstein from building an army of Warforged to help Napoleon escape his exile on the British island of Saint Helena. Although the PCs were able to put an end to Napoleon’s evil plan, Dr. Frankenstein escaped, and for the last year they have been on his trail.

My other ideas:
1878 Cowboys vs. Vampires
A tough gunfighter discovers he is heir to a fortune in far off Transylvania. All he has to do is go get it.

1926 Gangsters vs. Vampires
A tough mobster discovers he is heir to a fortune in far off Transylvania. All he has to do is go get it.

1938 Hardboiled detectives vs. Vampires
A tough detective discovers he is heir to a fortune in far off Transylvania. All he has to do is go get it. I'd have to throw some nazi's in too.

I think your initial idea is much more interesting than the other ones, although I'm always a fan of throwing in Nazis as badguys whenever possible. Perhaps a WWII yarn set late in the war where a desperate Germany seeks the alliance of a certain Vlad Dracula? The PCs could be OSA (Office of Supernatural Activities) agents or just plain old grunts. Their mission is to stop the Jerries from gaining a powerful ally in ol' Drac, preferrably by taking him out. A fun twist could be that Drac sees both the Allies and the Nazis as invaders, and the two groups have to band together in order to make it out of Transylvania alive.

I thought the Napoleonic Era story was better too.
They did a Nazi's vs. Dracula movie already. I even have a 1st Edition DnD module based on it. It was called The Keep.
Come to think of it, I have Weird War II d20, so I could do the WWII version as well...

They did a module based on the Keep?

I never saw the movie, but I did read the book.

As I understand it, there are notes for running Castle Ravenloft in d20 Modern. I haven't read through my copy yet, so I couldn't tell you for sure.

Wow, Role Aides...haven't thought about those in a while. Talk about old school! :)

Hey, I've got a Wormy icon.
Can't get much more old school than that!

Sounds like you want a D20 Modern/Past game, more than a D&D game. Go for it! It sounds like it would be a neat game.

The initial idea sounds like a lot of fun. You might want to see if you can pick up or find some of the Masque of the Red Death material for it, too.
