Hunter-type Prestige Classes

DrG Don't know me
I'm looking for some good "hunter" archetype prestige classes. The Highland Stalker, in Complete Adventurer, is a good example. Any more?

Note that I am not looking for the slew of "sni[er" variants that seem to be everywhere. Too often I see everyone assume that "hunter" in DnD is synonymous with "longbow user", and I'm trying to find some other ideas.

Thanks in advance!

There's any number of classes that hunt specific things, like demon hunters and dragon hunters and giant hunters and the like. Are you just looking for a generic hunter-type?

Generic hunters, not specific enemy hunters.

Highland Stalker looks like it gives a little Ranger flavor to your Scout, or some Scout flavor to your Ranger. I think if you're aiming at more generic, then the base classes will serve you better. Favored enemy doesn't really hurt your chances of tracking other critters, and if that's still not your style, there are other classes who have Survival as a class skill. What exactly about the hunter concept are you going for?

I'm not entirely sure yet. Just getting ideas for a scout-type character. I'm thinking of a "bushman" like character, with a spear and some boomerangs.

Currently I'm considering a mix of Scout and Spirit Shaman levels. Was wondering if there were any good hunter/bushman-type prestige classes out there to consider.

Well, the Highland Stalker's combat prowess certainly can't hurt. You might explore the Eldeen Ranger in the Eberron Campaign setting, as that supports a numb4er of different spiritual philosophies on druidism and thus ranger-type magic. Though I think it requires favored enemy. Maybe you could focus on the spellcastng aspects of a ranger.

A good "hunter" class is the Ranger. You don't really need much more than that.

But for PrCs, one of my favorites is the Leviathan Hunter from Stormwrack. It doesn't have a focus on any particular kind of creature, other than simply BIG creatures.

Otherwise the question is, what do you want to hunt? There are a lot of specialist hunter classes. I like the Dragon Stalker from Draconomicon for hunting dragons.

Maybe it would help if you could inform us what kind of setting/game your character is playing in (assuming you are currently mid-game and not starting a character from scratch).

You said "bushman." Is your character working with temperate forest terrain? Jungle? Desert/outback? etc? It might eliminate some of the areas that don't really apply to what you want.

While I was picturing more of a bushman jungle-type, if you kow of other similar options, I am all ears.

It's a generic fantasy game, lower on the magic. Like I said, the concet is still floating around in my head, and started off as simply "elven hunter"

Right now, I'm thinking elven Scout / Spirit Shaman, using Boomerangs and spears.

There's also the Slayer prestige class in the psionic domain...

You can take the feat Wild Talent to give yourself a power point reserve if you want to.

This seems to be mainly a psionic-campaign-oriented PrC, though.

There is a prestige class in I think Eberron that's like an urban detective... That could probably be adapted to a rural environment...
