Does anyone have a zombie listing that is more....28 days later…

Does anyone have a zombie listing that is more....28 days later zombie movie zombie, than Dawn of the Dead hanging out in the shopping mall zombie? (is it dawn of the dead...its been years.)

I was thinking some sort of zombie that rends or has a powerful bite once it has a hold of the target....give it a grapple check, if its grappling, it has an easier time (maybe auto hit?) biting? Maybe double damage? Something different.

This is something that just popped into my head....so don't bother telling me i'm crazy...I know that. My students tell me every day.

Opinions? grapple and then free hit or +4 perhaps? something. or a blood frenzy or something....similar to rage? Something to add on speed? Or should that just be the charge. Perhaps charge is best. Claws instead of slam attack?

Use a ghoul and replace paralysis with the bite power.

Or make a troll zombie

What about Ju-Ju zombies...have they brought those into 3.0 or 3.5 yet? Monster manual III maybe?

Are you envisioning something like a creature, or a template?

In Libris Mortis there is a template for "fast zombies". Give an improved critical range to the bite, to make them more dangerous.

oh? I haven't looked for anything yet, but that should be interesting...thanks.
15th-May-2006 09:27 pm (UTC) - it is Dawn of the Dead, you're right
An important note is that the zombies in 28 Days Later are not dead, they're living people who have been consumed with viral rage. The Tainted Raver from Heroes of Horror is actually pretty close to what you're looking or. It's a template that makes its bearer irretrievably insane and grants perpetual rage. It might leave its subject a bit too cerebral to really fit the 28 Days later theme, though.

The closest I've seen to a good Romero zombie has been the Viral Plague Zombie in d20 Apocalypse. I think it might even maintain the speed seen in the Dawn of the Dead remake, but I can't remeber. Second best is the Ghoul.

As others have said, the 3.5 ghoul essentially IS the Dawn of the Dead redux zombie, right down to its infected bite killing people and bringing them back as ghouls.

The paralysis thing is a little wonky. Has anyone adequately explained WHY the paralysis thing even exists? Swap it out for Improved Grab or Rend, is my suggestion.

Make shit up. You don't need to create an actual rule-compliant creature. Your players won't know the difference anyway... nor will anybody aside from you appreciate your effort with all the rule tweaking and such.

Your players will just see it as another creature to smash.. albeit a cool and memorable one.. and THAT'S what you should be concerned with, not the rules aspect.

I'm the most ridiculous DM in history. I honestly don't think I use the rules for anything, lol.

Also.. you're not crazy. I made similar zombies in a campaign once. I just gave them all kinds of crazy bonuses that I mostly made up on the spot. My players loved it :)
