Lesser Polymorph / Monomorph

Have any of you heard of, discovered, or created any lesser forms of the Polymorph spell?

I'd like to create a metamorph character with some early morphing forms.

I would like to design a chain of Morph spells:

Monomorph Self - Sor/Wiz 1, similar but lessened stats as PM, choose one creature from a restricted list to morph into

Monomorph Self, Greater - Sor/Wiz 2, slightly better stats, slightly better options

Polymorph Self, Lesser - Sor/Wiz 3, like regular PM but with a restricted list (perhaps only from certain types ala only Humanoids and Animals)

What do you think?

If you take a look at the excerpts avilable online for the upcoming PHB2, they list two of the new polymorph subschool spells: Dragonshape and Trollshape.

I created a polymorph type spell for monster NPCs that allows them to polymorph into a humanoid form. The strict limitation is that the humanoid form is always the same, and has characteristics similar to the original form. For instance, a black dragon sorceror can polymorph into a gorgeous (high cha) dark skinned woman with long pitch black hair.

They retain all stats, except for modification due to size (this results in significantly reduced Str & Con).

I think "monomorph" is clever, but it sounds rather silly at the same time. But I understand where you're going with it.
