hey guys...
so, I'm doing my thesis project on d&d. {info can be found at this lj, though it's a little out of date.}

i'm trying to get online surveys filled out, but i don't think my website is working properly, and my webmaster is totally jerking me around about it. so, I'm switching to paper surveys at gaming stores, but i'm really worried about this, because most of the female gamers i know refuse to GO to gaming stores at all, due to creepy factor. {note the previous post about male gamer attitudes...}
so i have a couple questions for you guys...
and i'm wondering if you could fill it out, then post a comment to let me know you did? {this way i can track how many responses i'm getting...}
survey is here: http://www.fadingdots.com/survey/survey.cfm?n=introduction

also... have you guys had any issues at gaming stores? if so, what were they, and what have you done about it?

i sooo appreciate any help, i'm getting into panic mode here... :)
thanks!
.xoxox.

I participated. I'm male, but I did it anyway. Nice survey.

I'm a guy, so this may not count.

I was in War Games West one day (old timers will remember it no matter where in the world they lived) and I spoke out loud about how cool Traveller was as I looked at a rulebook on the shelf. One of the wargamers (old timers might also know about the rivalry between role-players and wargamers) ridiculed me for liking Traveller. Normally when a wargamer insults a role-player, or vice versa, then them are fightin' words! But the wargamer had an assault rifle, and was wearing body armor, so I decided not to test my luck with on-duty policeman and just shut up about Traveller.

Filled it in.

I plan to fill it out, hopefully tomorrow (Wed). I will send a link to the female gamers in my group.

One thing I thought of is you could also make a document (PDF, RTF, DOC) and post that. People could then email or snail-mail the doc back to you. It is more labor on your end, but works if your online survey is busted. RTF is probably best because of the fill-out nature of it.

You've got mine. Enjoy a DM with mostly girls playing's point of view. (:

I filled out the survey, but feel free to ask me any other questions. I am well aware of the "creepy factor" of gaming stores, although I've always been more uncomfortable with the guys in comic book and video game stores. At this point, i just think its a bit funny when I'm swarmed in a gaming shop, especially if I'm with my husband. He gets far more defensive around gaming store geeks than anywhere else.

Heh. Even I don't like going into most gaming stores and I'm a 30ish white male! I try to go at odd times to avoid the usual swarms of, well, we all know. ;)

BTW, elves_v_dwarves, I filled out the survey and passed it on to my group. I play with 1 other male and 3 females which is somewhat odd. Either there is zero or maybe one female or all females. But I think that is all changing.. slowly.
