I had the opportunity to see Bulletproof Monk last night (an event I'm working towards expunging from my mind), but it made me think that a truly mystical type of monk could best be a modified Psychic Warrior, with the idea of psionics replaced by inner peace and unity with one's surroundings. Am I full of it? What do other people think?

I think the standard D&D monk suits Bulletproof Monk. Compare the two again. At the very least the D&D monk is nothing like the European monks and friars.

You might want to take a look at modifying the Sacred Fist PrC from Defenders of the Faith, perhaps by blending it with the PHB Monk and replacing the divine component with a psionic component. Then again, the Monk core class is pretty mystical as-is.
