planning something, books not handy, quick question:
what's the favored weapon of a priest of Kord?

and aside from that what do you think of an order of monks who worship Kord? how do you feel about lawful good monks worshipping chaotic good Kord?

I think it's a greatsword.

Kord is a chaotic god who has paladins; I see no problems with LG monks following Kord if paladins can manage.

Always remember that it is your D&D campaign.

So yeah, I think monks dedicated to Kord are cool.

Monks of Kord go RARR!

hahaha... well, if you allow the Quintessential Monk (Mongoose Publishing) Monk of the Eastern Seas character Concept can be Chaotic monks. So yea, they can go Arrr.

You know, personally I always found the lawful based monk thing a little constraining anyway, so I reworked the class to include other alignment bases, sort of like the alternate paladins in Unearthed Arcana (tyrrany, freedom, slaughter...). But even barring that, monks can worship any diety they like, since every diety has some aspect that can be a focus for contemplation. Lawful monks would certainly respect Kord's strength, his unflinching and steadfast opposition of his enemies, and his legendary battle prowess. I say go for it.

i don't want to start another installment of The Great Alignment Debate™ but i always viewed the monks lawful requirement as a steadfast dedication to the art and the brotherhood (or sisterhood) rather than a belief in the rectitude of the law of the land.

I'd think you'd need to take the right feats to reflect your Kordliness as a monk. Definitely the Power Attack chain, and maybe the Combat Expertise chain before hitting anything in the Dodge chain.

yeah. i was thinking about changing some of the monk abilities too. diamond body doesn't seem appropriate somehow. but its totally for npc's so i can fudge a bit and not worry about making a pc kordian (kordite?) monk.

Kord monks = a good thing. What would happen if every single group that worshipped Kord was chaotic good???? That would be boring and predictable.

I like the "holy warrior" option from The Book of the Righteous; I use it instead of the paladin.
